The problem

Groups organising a khatm usually split the 30 juzʾ in a WhatsApp chat, then lose track of who has finished, who is behind and who has dropped out.

What I worked on

I contributed translations across ten languages, first-launch language selection, installed-app update fixes, and the automatic flow into the next reading round. Khatmah is a collaborative Makeen Majlis project; the wider app and walkthrough are shown for context.

  • Translations of the whole app into 10 languages
  • Choosing a language the first time the app opens
  • Fixes to how the installed app picks up new versions
  • Automatic next rounds: when one khatm fills up, new readers flow into the next under the same link

Design in the details

Choose a language before anything else

First-launch language selection makes the app accessible before a reader needs to create or join a group. Arabic and Urdu also change the reading direction and numerals throughout the experience.

Let one invitation keep working

When a reading round fills up, new readers can flow into the next round through the same invitation. Organisers can keep sharing one link instead of replacing it each time.

Under the hood

Ten languages, both directions

Arabic and Urdu switch the whole layout to right-to-left, and each language shows its own numerals.

One link that never fills up

A shared link keeps working after a round is complete, quietly starting the next round instead of turning people away.

The experience

A shared experience across languages.

Families and communities can organise reading through a shared link. My contributions help people start in their own language and continue into new rounds with less coordination.
